Adversity and the Road to Success – from Seth Godin

I was reading Seth Godin’s Blog today and I thought this was good enough to share with y’all.

“Resource-rich regions often fall behind in developing significant industrial and cultural capabilities. Japan does well despite having very few resources at all.

Well-rounded and popular people rarely change the world. The one voted most likely to succeed probably won’t.

Genuine success is scarce, and the scarcity comes from the barriers that keep everyone from having it. If it weren’t for the scarcity, it wouldn’t be valuable, after all.

It’s difficult to change an industry, set a world record, land big clients, or do art that influences others. When faced with this difficulty, those with other, seemingly better options see the barrier and walk away.

Why bother? The thinking is that we can just pump some more oil or smile and gladhand our way to an acceptably happy outcome.

On the other hand, people who believe they have fewer options take a look at the barrier and realize that even though it will be difficult to cross, it’s the single best option they’ve got.

This is one of the dangers of overfunded/undertested startup companies. Without an astute CEO in charge, they begin to worry more about not losing what they’ve already got than the real reason they started the project in the first place.”

Entrepreneurship Program

I am currently working with the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver in developing a Masters program in Entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is close to my heart as it has allowed me to become who I want to be and continues to be my everyday passion.  Not only that but entrepreneurs create jobs.  Whether new or continuing education, providing resources for our community fosters success as a result of superior business planning.

So all I am asking is if you are interested in entrepreneurship, own your own business or would like to find out more, if you could take this quick survey for me?

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DUMSE

Everyone who participates can enter to win a $25 Starbucks gift card by random drawing.

Preliminary results will be collected this week but your input will be welcomed on a continual basis as we develop the program.

Thank you all!

My big secret is no more.. (!!)

AKA “Why I didn’t get a JOB.. Part III”!

By this point, you all may be wondering what exactly have I been up to lately.  Since all my social media posts have trickled down to nothing and my running blogs have been somewhat lacking recently..

So finally, it is the big reveal!

I have been helping my father build his real estate investing company here in Colorado.  I have been completely immersing myself in all things real estate for about 6 months now, trying to catch up to his level of expertise.  While downing coffee on a constant basis ingesting the ins and outs of the business, I’ve been doing everything from menial marketing and paperwork to phone calls to building out the website and social media accounts (how could I not?!).   I’ve been *trying* to put my MBA to good use, and I think it’s actually working!

Without further ado, here is our pride and joy:

And I promise that I’ve got a ton of cool new blog posts in the pipeline so I won’t be taking another unexpected hiatus for a while!
